'One to One with Gloria' and Glenn Close on the red carpet at The 3rd Elly Awards at The Plaza Hotel on June 25, 2013 – See what you missed video

“…It touches me very much because my friend, Pat Mitchell, is getting one of these awards and she has been one of my dearest friends … her advocacy, mentorship and leadership qualities… It’s a great honor to be here.” ~~ Glenn Close, American film, television and stage actress, acclaimed for her versatility and iconic work. As quoted on the red carpet during The 3rd Annual Emmy Awards, The Plaza Hotel, New York City, June 25, 2013

Below is the latest video, 'One to One with Gloria' and Glenn Close during red carpet at The 3rd Annual Elly Awards at The Plaza Hotel, New York City on June 25, 2013.

The opportunity to meet and interview Glenn Close, who presented the award to her dear friend, Pat Mitchell, was truly an inspiration and amazing. Close is a six-time Academy Award nominee -- holding the record for having the most Academy nominations (along with Deborah Kerr and Thelma Ritter). Close also has three Tonys, an Obie, three Emmys, two Golden Globes, and a Screen Actors Guild Award, has been nominated three times for a Grammy Award and once for a BAFTA, amongst others. Close was named Entertainment Industry Foundation's ambassador for the 2006 “Key to the Cure” initiative, a charity endeavor that has raised more than $20 million in seven years to benefit EIF Women’s Cancer Research Fund. Close helped design and signed a pair of shoes for the Stuart Weitzman charity shoe auction benefiting ovarian cancer awareness and research and co-created “Bring Change 2 Mind” in order to reduce the stigma attached to mental illness, from which both her sister and nephew suffer.

“…The males in the family feel tinged. We better get more involved because the women in this family are making us look bad…there’s Madeline, there’s Maria and there’s Margaret the doctor who has just written a book…so when I get back I’m gonna’ say hey guys they’re coming at us … We’re proud of immigrant families … What we’re proudest of is the United States of America…” ~~ Governor Mario Cuomo, American politician and member of the Democratic Party. He served as the Secretary of State of New York from 1975 to 1978, as the Lieutenant Governor of New York from 1979 to 1982 and as the 52nd Governor of New York for three terms, 1983 to 1994; quoted on the red carpet during The 3rd Annual Emmy Awards, The Plaza Hotel, New York City, June 25, 2013

The opportunity to meet and interview political icon, Governor Mario Cuomo, about 10 days after the unveiling of his portrait at the state Capitol on June 15th which incidentally was his 81st birthday and the day before Father’s Day, was truly an amazing experience and one I will cherish for a very, very long time. Photo left, Cuomo signs "The 3rd Annual Elly Awards" guest sheet. This year daughter, Maria Cuomo Cole and Pat Mitchell were honored for their leadership. The "see what you missed” video montage is here – glad you’re back. Maria Benavenga, KUDOS, KUDOS, KUDOS to you over and over for producing another spectacular "see what you missed" video montage in record-breaking time!  There are photos posted on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151662069486435.1073741834.794796434&type=1&l=f9592b0ffa

On Tuesday, June 25, 2013, "The 3rd Annual Elly Awards Benefitting the Education Fund of The Women's Forum of New York" was held at The Plaza Hotel in New York City to honor Maria Cuomo Cole, Advocate, activist, filmmaker and Chair of HELP USA and Pat Mitchell, President and CEO of the Paley Center for Media.

Cole was honored for her contributions as advocate, activist and filmmaker and for her lasting impact on several of the leading issues of our day, and Mitchell for her unparalleled career -- both in front of the camera and behind it -- as an award-winning career journalist, producer and executive.

The Elly Award recognizes extraordinary and often heroic effort in overcoming adversity and the most daunting of odds in restructuring lives for success. Grants are awarded to women over the age of 35 who, after suffering great adversity and an interruption in their education, are now pursuing undergraduate college degrees. Students in this population are often single parents, economically disadvantaged and struggling with the rising costs of a college education. Over the past 26 years, 141 women have been honored by The Education Fund.

The Women’s Forum of New York is New York's premier organization of women leaders comprised of the highest women achievers across all professional sectors from finance to fine arts. For more information visit https://www.womensforumny.org/

The Education Fund of the Women's Forum provides annual Awards to encourage mature women of need to fulfill their potential through the pursuit of an undergraduate college education and to enhance their capacities to provide productive and supportive service to their communities. http://www.womensforumny.org/index.cfm/education-fund/

Award winning actress, Glenn Close and former New York First Lady Matilda Raffa Cuomo presented the key awards. Tony Award winning playwright, activist and author of the “Vagina Monologues” and “Emotional Creature,” Eve Ensler, lead a conversation on leadership with honorees Maria Cuomo Cole and Pat Mitchell.

The stellar event was held at NYC’s finest landmark, The Plaza Hotel, world reknown for timeless elegance, history, and palatial architecture. Stay tuned for exciting “one to one” interviews with honorees Maria Cuomo Cole, Pat Mitchell, and presenters Glenn Close. Additionally I was privileged to meet and interview with Irene Cohen, Founder/Former President of The Education Fund and Partner at Cohen and Miners and Beverly Beaudoin, President of The Education Fund of the Women’s Forum.

Amazing takeaway was the honor to meet and interview with Governor Mario Cuomo and First Lady of New York, Matilda Cuomo.

For those of you who weren’t able to attend this stellar event, this article will be updated regularly. Included will be a “see what you missed” video featuring highlights of the event and “One to One” interviews from the red carpet.
