The theme this year, “Working for Wellness and Beyond,” recognizes companies committed to educating and employing veterans including America’s Armed Forces and service members who experience significant mental health issues and unemployment while transitioning back to civilian life. Award winning ABC news correspondent, Bob Woodruff was Master of Ceremony.

Gregory J. Fleming, President, Morgan Stanley Wealth and Investment Management was honored for his commitment and support for educating and employing veterans.

Also honored was Staff Sergeant Salvatore A. Giunta, for raising awareness about veterans ongoing mental health needs. Sgt. Giunta is the first living person since the Vietnam War to receive the Medal of Honor. Interestingly, of the 79 living Medal of Honor recipients alive today, Sgt. Giunta was one of the two Medal of Honor recipients attending the gala.

It was all kind hearts and gentle minds on Thursday, June 6, 2013, as guests gathered in New York City to attend MHA-NYC “Where There is Help, There is Hope” Gala hosted by Howard Cross, Former NY Giant Tight End, and Senior Vice President at Cresa NY.

Because psychological wounds can be as painful and debilitating as the physical injuries sustained in war, the importance of mental well being of our nation’s veterans and military is crucial. To serve America’s veterans, MHA-NYC has partnered with government to provide life-saving programs such as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and the Veterans’ Crisis Line. These lines respond to hundreds of thousands of calls for help each year.

Honorable Eric K. Shinseki, U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs presented the Award to Gala Honoree, philanthropic leader, Kenneth Fisher, of Fisher Brothers, and founder of Fisher Houses, a network of 60 "homes away from home" for military families to be close to a loved one during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury.

The full house event was held at the spectacular, palatial, Cipriani at 42nd Street right in the heart of New York City.

There were over 450 attendees among special guests who read like a “who’s who” in philanthropy, business, leadership, media, humanitarianism, and entrepreneurship. Photos of the event at https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151622067251435.1073741833.794796434&type=1&l=dd524bea9a
