Four years ago today,'Twitter and the Ripple Effect: More than spreading your wings and tweeting,' 'evergreen marketing insighter' ▲▲▲
by Gloria Buono-Daly

To think over 98,000 hits and 232 posts later, the
AllThingsDigitalMarketing blog has reached the 4th year milestone. The very first blog titled Twitter and Ripple Effect: More than spreading your wings and tweeting posted here on September 22, 2009. Yay and happy 4th to the AllThingsDigitalMarketing blog.

Do you think the same strategy still applies for Twitter today?

Twitter, a micro-blog with a 140-character-limit blurb known as a “tweet” having potential to create a chain of social media networking events that can lead to exponentially larger alterations of social media networking instances. Twittering appears to have maximized the power of connecting. In less than 4 years, it is  estimated that there are over 250 million twitter accounts worldwide.

But if you think that Twitter and the bird’s far reaching effect is enough to make your media campaign a success, try spreading your wings and flying. You just might find yourself in a nose-dive!

Of course, everyone is twittering, with hopes of creating shifts in perspectives that will lead to greater connections, better businesses and stronger communities.

It’s been said that a sea gull’s simple flap of a wing can change weather, and so too a simple tweet can create ripple effects in the customers, employees, friends, colleagues and even those people and entities that you have never known and now suddenly have become your followers.

Why then are there still no analytics for measuring effectiveness, or tried and true processes and marketing solutions from this bird?

Although Twitter’s wide massive appeal has grown so quickly in such a brief time, it is still considered new. Twitter became available to the public in 2006 but really gained momentum in April 2007. According to Wikipedia “The tipping point for Twitter's popularity was the 2007 South by Southwest, SXSW, festival. During the event usage went from 20,000 tweets per day to 60,000.” This all occurring after the Web 2.0 buzz of 2006, which arose 2 years after the first Web 2.0 Oreilly Conference, October 5 – 7, 2004, at the Hotel Nikko in San Francisco, CA.

Today, there are many factors that contribute to the success of a social networking marketing campaign and Twitter is just one of the many digital integrated marketing tools. Besides having experience, skill and passion about what you are communicating, successful social media marketing requires a well thought out, detailed, marketing plan and timeline. Even with all this, there are still no guarantees; What works for one company or person  may not be as effective for another.

While there are no magic bullets that will guarantee the overall success of your campaign, below you will find a listing of some helpful tips to guide you through the process of integrating twittering into your corporate digital marketing programs:

1. Create momentum with effective communications and set up kick-off meetings well in advance of your deliverables

2. Optimal participation is key. Schedule regular (weekly or bi-weekly) meetings (virtual or in person) and involve as many employees/departments in your organization.

3. Ensure that your meeting handouts include guidelines for branding specs, e.g., having company logo included on all tweets, regardless of whether a company is using different blog/tweet names for different products,/themes, etc., appropriate tone, buzzwords, keywords, etc.

4. If your social marketing media campaign calls for multiple bloggers and twitterers, make sure your respective tweet names match respective tweet blogs; This information should all be mapped out (e.g., spreadsheet) and incorporated into your digital marketing plan alongside all of the other marketing tools you will be integrating

5. Use common sense and discuss best practice to ensure employee tweeters know their leaps and bounds when contributing to avoid compromising your blogs/tweets integrity and reputation

6. Tie in tweets with your company’s blogs – an example is how Martha Stewart’s tips, ideas, etc., from her blog into tweets – again, not necessarily coming from someone from her company, but created such a brand following that followers as well as employees include her ideas in their blogs

7. Understand and learn of the importance of following potential customers, existing customers, vendors, suppliers, etc.

8. Incorporate short and simple auto-respond tweets for new followers – assuring real-time reply in the event no one is able to respond immediately; Although the majority of folks recommend not using auto-responds, my suggestion is to test the waters but keep auto-responds short, thanking them for connecting and sharing relevant information.  If you feel auto-responding is working against you, simply remove it. At least you can say you gave it a try.

9. Understand the importance of hashtags and other application enhancements and use them carefully. E.g., including hashtags in your tweets, e.g., #followfriday; and applications, Tweet Meme, etc. There are pros and cons to hashtags - some folks feel the short 140-character blurbs get distorted from the #hashtag symbol while others are embracing it. So far, I haven't been incorporating hashtags into my tweets. I use hashtags every now and then depending on the topic and content. I also use name tags, e.g., @gbdaly, etc.

10. If you are interested in following please feel free to follow me on Twitter at www.twitter.com/gbdaly

The Wizard of OZ celebrates 75th early with 3D film release

“Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore. We must be over the rainbow!”
~~ Judy Garland, playing Dorothy Gale in The Wizard of Oz film, 1939, American actress, singer and vaudevillian (June 10, 1922 – June 22, 1969).

The Wizard of Oz turns 75 years on August 12th of next year, but that is not stopping the early celebration which began September 15th with the First-Ever Hollywood 3D IMAX Premiere release (California only release nationwide Sept. 20th).

In celebration of the 75th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz, Warner Bros., IMAX Corporation and the TCL Chinese Theatre have teamed up to host the world premiere of the film's first-ever IMAX 3D release at the new TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX in Hollywood, California on Sept. 15th, followed by an exclusive one-week IMAX engagement at the new theatre and IMAX theatres across North America beginning Sept. 20.

This 1939 American fantasy adventure film produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer was first released on August 12, 1939 (the official 75th is August 12, 2014).

To see the 3D video trailer visit The Wizard of Oz 3D Youtube Trailer.

Based on the 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum the film starred Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, Bert Lahr, and Frank Morgan, with Billie Burke, Margaret Hamilton, Charley Grapewin, Clara Blandick and the Singer Midgets as the Munchkins.

Surprisingly, the initial release of The Wizard of Oz was not a box office hit and barely broke even. According to IMDb.com, the film earned roughly 3,000,000 and had a huge budget for that time, estimated at $2,777,000.

What appeared to save this film was, of course, what else – technology – particularly with the use of Technicolor, along with the fantasy storytelling, musical score, and unusual characters. Gradually The Wizard of Oz has become one of the most well known films and part of American popular culture.

It also featured what may be the most elaborate use of character make ups and special effects in a film up to that time. With this gradual popularly, came huge earnings, adjusted in 2012 to $239,190, 498 (source: IMDb.com).

THE ICONIC RUBY SLIPPERS

According to a Forbes article in 2008, Inside the Search for Dorothy’s Slippers, the ruby slippers worn by Dorothy during The Wizard of OZ are now among the most treasured and valuable of film memorabilia.

Multiple pairs were made for the film, and of them five pairs are known to have survived; one pair was stolen in 2005 and has never been recovered. Interesting to note that in L. Frank Baum's original novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Dorothy actually wore Silver Shoes however it was changed for the film to ruby to take advantage of the new Technicolor film process.

MUSICAL SELECTIONS AND SOUNDTRACK

Music in The Wizard of Oz was highly acclaimed for musical selections and soundtrack. Music & lyrics were by Harold Arlen and E.Y. "Yip" Harburg, who won the Academy Awards for Best Music Song for "Over the Rainbow."

Also, Herbert Stothart, who composed the instrumental underscore, won the Academy Award for Best Original Score.

THE YEAR WITHOUT PANTS ▼
WORDPRESS.COM and the f u tu r e  of  work

book review by Gloria Buono-Daly

“The oldest technology we have is speaking… Social media -- speaking, writing, and drinking -- has always been around…" ~~ Scott Berkun , public speaker, best-selling author, as quoted November 19, 2009 during “Web 2.0 Expo NYC,” Conference co-produced by O'Reilly Media, Inc. and TechWeb; @berkun

Matt Mullenweg, founder of WordPress, never asked me to join his company as team lead at Automattic, but author, Scott Berkun made me feel as if I had accepted the dreamiest dream job. By the way, the company name Automattic is intentionally misspelled with the extra “t” for the founder’s first name, Matt.

The Year Without Pants: WordPress.com and the Future of Work by Scott Berkun has become my favorite business leadership book about work culture, leadership, and creative productivity.

Filled with humor and everyday life lessons, it’s the perfect gift for business colleagues from C-level officers and executives to managers, assistants, friends and family.

Berkun, a leading public speaker and entrepreneur for a decade who has already authored 4 popular books with 3 of them best-sellers, shares his journey as "automattician" (nickname for Automattic employees).

After a decade as a successful entrepreneur, with his income generated solely from speaking engagements and royalties from his books, Berkun decides to become an employee again by accepting the team leader position at WordPress’ Automattic.

Berkun is immediately exposed to Automattic’s unusual but innovative remote work culture and discovers communications with the proverbial emails are replaced by blogs (particularly with Wordpress' real-time communications plugin P2), chats (i.e.,IRC or Internet Relay Chat), and Skype. There are very few meetings, and schedules are non-existent.

Small tweaks to the company’s vernacular foster a sense of jovial community. For example, the support team is called “Happiness Team,” tech support is called “Happiness Engineers,” and “Caturday” for Saturday, etc.

Company rules mirror the push for a collective and integrated workforce: every new automattician is to be trained in customer support, all workers are encouraged to join on any project channel, and a creed is included on official documents including job offer letters.

The very beginning of the book includes a valuable takeaway as Berkun shares his experience during his job interview with Mullenweg:
“I told him I’d do it if I could write a book about my experience. He said yes, and here we are,” ~~ Scott Berkun, on becoming employee #58 on August 4, 2010, The Year Without Pants
Berkun’s sharp humor, keen perspective and legendary voice make you want to keep turning the pages to find out what he’s working on next or what his next decision will be and why. The story is in chronological format with a “participatory journalism” approach, allowing reporting that is more intimate with Berkun sharing his thoughts from being in the center of it all – looking and reaching from the inside out, rather than reporting from the standard sidelines.

A great moment (of many) in the book is when Berkun does not know his work is being monitored by the Automattic administration interface all while he is being trained by support aka “Happiness Team.” Hilariously, the book includes an image of Berkun’s “scorecard” with a mere 252 tickets for the month.
“Even worse than being tracked was being tracked and in last place … Despite my best efforts, the support tour kicked my ass… I’d leave the tour demoralized but inspired … I could proudly say I’d simultaneously helped customers, improved my knowledge of the product and befriended more than a dozen coworkers through actual work.”
~~ Scott Berkun, The Year Without Pants
Though the entire book is filled with fabulous learning facts, I was most struck by the manner to which Berkun vividly describes leadership power with analogy to the 1943 novella The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince) by French aristocrat and author Antoine de Saint-Exupery:
“There’s a deep emptiness in the lives of our most powerful people. Their drive for power is an attempt to fill that void. They remind me of the businessman in The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. In the book, the businessman has all the stars in the universe but no idea what they are good for: he just always wants more of them. Too many company founders are just collecting stars. Mullenweg is one of the few I’ve known who created something as powerful as WordPress yet remembers what the stars are for.”
~~ Scott Berkun, The Year Without Pants
Throughout the book this phenomena of WordPress’s success is illustrated through Berkun’s journey of discovery where wisdom and ideas, combined with laughter and camaraderie, make spectacular and unprecedented things happen at Automattic; Including this very special photograph taken by Berkun titled, "Friendship Trees," (Chapter 23, EXIT THROUGH HAWAII, "page 224).
Below photo courtesy of Scott Berkun.

There are so many important parts, surprise learning stories, and takeaways from The Year Without Pants: WordPress.com and the Future of Work by Scott Berkun that I can write a book about it, but that would give it away. If you want to know more, you'll have to read the book, which is in stores Tuesday, September 17th.

September 11th, 2001 – Twelve Years Later ▓▌▄▒║ ▓║ ║▌

Twelve years ago today our country was attacked, crumbling NYC's World Trade Center. Twelve years later the WTC rises from dead.
I turned this controversial photo upside-down a few years ago to celebrate the 10th year and now 12 years of resilience, and serve as a symbol of rising peace. Now with flagship 1 WTC standing at the symbolic height of 1776, once again, beautifying NYC's skyline, this photo also serves a symbol of our rising towers.
Photo below, "The Falling Man," by Richard Drew; renamed
"Flipped Falling Man" by Gloria Buono-Daly.

Emotionally charged, mixed feelings - 2001 to 2013. From Poet Laureate, Billy Collins' prose commemorating all of the 9/11 victims, "The Names," posted below, to one of the most provocative, unforgettable images by Associated Press photographer Richard Drew, of a man falling from the twin towers, positioned perfectly in the middle. The photo was taken at about 9:41 am on 9/11/01 -- 15 minutes before the 1st building, the South tower, collapsed. Videos would show that the falling man was actually a tumbling man in the air and this is one moment in his time that was captured.

Note how perfectly straight, positioned in the middle and parallel to the burning towers the falling man is. The above photo was branded distasteful and voyeuristic -- never to be shown again, yet the incredible "falling man" is still around.

There is much up side and only 12 years later. By the 11th anniversary (2012) the new multibillion-dollar World Trade Center, was back up in lower Manhattan's skyline.
WTC overview photo above by Joe Woolhead, Silverstein Properties

Budgeted at 3.9 billion upon completion, flagship, One World Trade Center, formerly known as the Freedom Tower, is expected to open sometime in 2014. At 104 stories (1368 feet high), the decorative architectural spire atop makes the building stand at the symbolic height of 1,776 feet. Observation decks will adorn the 100th, 101st and 102nd floors. Tenants so far include magazine publisher Conde Nast and the federal government's General Services Administration. Visit time lapse of 1 WTC video animation of rebuilding 1 WTC.

Rendering of 1 WTC photo left courtesy of Wikimedia.

At 72 stories (977ft high) Four World Trade Center, will be the first office building to open, scheduled next month (October 2013). First tenants will be Port Authority, the bistate agency that owns the trade center site and lost its headquarters when the twin towers were attacked. According to many articles and documentaries, there were about 200 people who jumped to their deaths, some were able to be identified only for the victim’s families and to provide closure for them. But there was no time to recover or identify those who were forced to jump prior to the collapse of the towers. We lost almost 3,000 lives that day.

Where were you on 9/11/2001?
I was working on Wall Street( on the corner of Wall and Water Streets). It was a beautiful, clear skied morning. I arrived early as I usually do and was at my desk on the computer when I heard a loud bang and felt rumbling underneath my desk at 8:46 a.m. I shouted "What was that?" Then 15 minutes later another bang, as some fellow employees arrived - initially we thought it was from a missile. Hard to imagine it would be the biggest single attack on American lives. I still keep asking myself "how could this be?" I was curious and ran outside to see what was happening.

As I was walking on Water St. and reached Liberty St., it was at about 10:00 am, I saw large billows of gray smoke, appearing to turn day to night, enveloping hundreds if not thousands of people running for their lives – apparently heading towards the river. I asked some folks what is happening and all were in shock. With all the commotion, all they could say while they were running was “it’s down, it’s down.” At that moment, I thought another plane came down. I ran back to the office and learned from colleagues that the South tower collapsed (incidentally, this was the 2nd building hit). The North tower (1st building hit) collapsed at about 30 minutes later. And the world would never be the same.

"The Names" poem by Billy Collins posted below:
Yesterday, I lay awake in the palm of the night.
A soft rain stole in, unhelped by any breeze,
And when I saw the silver glaze on the windows,
I started with A, with Ackerman, as it happened,
Then Baxter and Calabro,
Davis and Eberling, names falling into place
As droplets fell through the dark.
Names printed on the ceiling of the night.
Names slipping around a watery bend.
Twenty-six willows on the banks of a stream.
In the morning, I walked out barefoot
Among thousands of flowers
Heavy with dew like the eyes of tears,
And each had a name --
Fiori inscribed on a yellow petal
Then Gonzalez and Han, Ishikawa and Jenkins.
Names written in the air
And stitched into the cloth of the day.
A name under a photograph taped to a mailbox.
Monogram on a torn shirt,
I see you spelled out on storefront windows
And on the bright unfurled awnings of this city.
I say the syllables as I turn a corner --
Kelly and Lee,
Medina, Nardella, and O'Connor.
When I peer into the woods,
I see a thick tangle where letters are hidden
As in a puzzle concocted for children.
Parker and Quigley in the twigs of an ash,
Rizzo, Schubert, Torres, and Upton,
Secrets in the boughs of an ancient maple.
Names written in the pale sky.
Names rising in the updraft amid buildings.
Names silent in stone
Or cried out behind a door.
Names blown over the earth and out to sea.
In the evening -- weakening light, the last swallows.
A boy on a lake lifts his oars.
A woman by a window puts a match to a candle,
And the names are outlined on the rose clouds --
Vanacore and Wallace,
(let X stand, if it can, for the ones unfound)
Then Young and Ziminsky, the final jolt of Z.
Names etched on the head of a pin.
One name spanning a bridge, another undergoing a tunnel.
A blue name needled into the skin.
Names of citizens, workers, mothers and fathers,
The bright-eyed daughter, the quick son.
Alphabet of names in a green field.
Names in the small tracks of birds.
Names lifted from a hat
Or balanced on the tip of the tongue.
Names wheeled into the dim warehouse of memory.
So many names, there is barely room on the walls of the heart

Tips for SEO blogging and the importance of incorporating a mobile-friendly SEO strategy: 'Evergreen marketing insighter' ▲▲▲
by Gloria Buono-Daly

All too often blogging for search engine optimization (also known as SEO) gets put to the bottom of the marketer’s priority list because it can be very tedious and difficult to measure results.

A little less than a year ago (September 25, 2012) I posted this article and wanted to post an updated version a bit earlier for the sake of planning (September is crucial and when not only budgets but SEO planning and development for the following year are due). Updates from last year have been incorporated in the respective section below. Many revisions mostly pertain to the latest in mobile strategy.

Don’t let SEO slip away again come this January 2014. September/October is an excellent time to not only finalize on your budgets and campaign programs for the upcoming 1 - 2 years but to also fine-tune your SEO programs and synchronize them to your future projects and campaigns including mobile strategy.

Very important to note that SEO strategies for mobile are not the same as pc (laptop + desktop).

Especially with “Googlebot-Mobile,” an algorithm produced by Google in February 2012, which was designed to provide smartphone users with a geo-targeted user search by interfacing with a mobile’s GPS.

Many marketing professionals are unaware of the latest strategies for SEO mobile concepts. For example, did you know that RWD (responsive web design) is the best way to for creating web content and SEO? The user experience (UX) across all different platforms (e.g., desktop, mobile, tablet, etc.) are improved simultaneously because the RWD designed website eliminates the need to have a separate site optimized for mobile versions. All web content and display versions -- desktop, tablet, mobile, etc.,-- are creatively aligned consistently with the respective website. Conveniently, you only revise the content once and don't have to create separate sites for the other devices. The main concern with RWD is the length of time and expense to rebuild a main site; RWD is faster and less expensive when building a new web site from scratch. More information about the pros and cons of RWD is at The Moz Blog titled "The SEO's Guide to Building a Great Mobile Site" by Kristina Kledzik.

Marketers still confuse "blogging for SEO" with traditional blogging; However it is entirely different.

An important factor for a Web site’s success is generating organic Web traffic (search results), and blogging for SEO is a great social media program to incorporate into your company’s integrated marketing program.

Search engines (e.g., Google, Yahoo, etc.) will pull up a site more frequently when links and content are added or updated frequently.

This holds especially true for blogs. Keeping in mind the importance of incorporating a mobile-friendly strategy, which will require the use of different algorithm, keyword, and search behavior for mobile (besides pc) and the use of responsive web design, below are helpful tips to get your blogs to the optimal, SEO level (pc and mobile):

• Be interesting, relevant and concise. Storytelling comes in all sizes, shapes and fashions. Forget the “fancy-schmancy” words to prove your Columbia School of Journalism credentials. While longer blogs are acceptable, writing a shorter blog (from 150 to 300 words) almost always guarantees your blog will be entirely read.

• For blogs that are on direct Web site (i.e., not on Google Blogger or WordPress) make sure the content links to external Web sites as well as the blogger’s URL. Link building is crucial for an effective blog post since search engines are more likely to index a site loaded with links to external sites than to a site with multiple links directed to one Web site.

• Be mindful that if a blog is on WordPress or Google Blogger, multiple, relevant links should be included on the respective Web URL.

• Remember that rules are made to be broken. If there is something interesting to write about but it’s not exactly relevant to your/or your client’s blog, go ahead and blog. Although many experts would say to target a respective industry only, it is actually effective to digress once in a while with interesting content. It’s more important to keep on blogging than to not write from writer’s block.

• For more information regarding mobile-friendly SEO, visit Sonny Sharp's "SEO mobilized: How strategies differ on mobile and desktop search."

• According to an seomoz blog post, “21 Tactics to Increase Blog Traffic,” by randfish “It's easy to build a blog, but hard to build a successful blog with significant traffic.” This applies for both traditional and blogging for SEO.

• Here is a great "SEO Cheat Sheet: Anatomy of a URL" you may find handy

Does your marketing program include blogging for SEO and do you incorporate a mobile-friendly strategy?

Do you have any questions or any SEO blogging tip to share?

Here’s a quote to help put blogging into perspective:

“A blog is only as interesting as the interest shown in others.”

Happy 131st Labor Day America

“Labor day is a great American holiday that people celebrate by going out and buying products made in China.”
~~ David Letterman, American television host and comedian; Host of CBS Late Show with David Letterman, recently surpassing Johnny Carson for having the longest late-night hosting career in the USA, on the irony of Labor Day

Today is Labor Day. Happy 131st Labor Day America. Let’s admit it, this holiday does appear ironic:

Imagine American’s celebrating workers, particularly in light of our country’s high unemployment rates which are a lot higher than our government reports.

Stats and economy aside, all across America, this holiday which was once symbolic for back to school, the end of the summer and the archaic fashion trend – where wearing white after Labor Day is a fashion faux pas – have all been passé for years. For the many attentive parents and their children, it's the end of summer reading programs and making sure all of their children's book reports and other assignments are in order.

In a world of digital, it is also a great idea to use the internet for exciting news and interesting ideas. SchoolsNYC.org, SummerReading.org, and Scholastic.com are very helpful sites.

So much happens over the summer and discussing a few books (or just 1)that your child has read, (a simple question will do) is a great refresher and memory exercise. This also best prepares your child for the first day of school.

What about vacation? Talk about a great memory or event during summer family visits and travels.

HISTORY

One hundred and thirty one years ago (1882), Matthew Maguire, a machinist, first proposed the holiday while serving as secretary of the CLU (Central Labor Union) of New York. Others argue that it was first proposed by Peter J. McGuire of the American Federation of Labor in May 1882, after witnessing the annual labour festival held in Toronto, Canada. Oregon was the first state to make it a holiday on February 21, 1887. By the time it became a federal holiday in 1894, thirty states officially celebrated Labor Day.

In the United States, Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of their country.

In many countries, the working classes sought to make May Day an official holiday, and their efforts largely succeeded. In the United States and Canada, however, the official holiday for workers is Labor Day in September. This day was promoted by the Central Labor Union and the Knights of Labor, who organized the first parade in New York City.

After the Haymarket Massacre, US President Grover Cleveland feared that commemorating Labor Day on May 1 could become an opportunity to commemorate the affair. Thus, in 1887, it was established as an official holiday in September to support the Labor Day that the Knights favored.

Women's Equality Day is a day proclaimed each year by the United States President to commemorate the granting of the vote to women throughout the country on an equal basis with men. Women in the United States were granted the right to vote on August 26, 1920, when the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution was certified.

The Nineteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitutional was passed and prohibits any United States citizen to be denied the right to vote based on sex. It was ratified on August 18, 1920.
The amendment was first introduced many years earlier in 1878.

Every president has published a proclamation for Women's Equality Day since 1971 (93 years after the amendment was introduced) when legislation was first introduced in Congress by Bella Abzug.

This resolution was passed designating August 26 of each year as Women's Equality Day.

The Amendment was drafted by prominent civil rights leader, Susan B. Anthony (pictured above left) with assistant, American social activist, Elizabeth Cady Stanton (pictured right).

It took another 51 years to form Women's Equality Day - at the urgent request of Rep. Bella Abzug (D-NY)(photo left) -- in 1971 the U.S. Congress designated August 26 as “Women’s Equality Day.”

In 1869, Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton founded the National Woman Suffrage Association (NWSA) an organization dedicated to gaining women's suffrage. Anthony insisted that Stanton become president as long as possible; Anthony served as vice-president-at-large until 1892 when she became president.
